JAN. 9 | After debuting its new environmentally friendly Flip-Pak cases with First Look Studios titles, Shorewood Packaging has added another green offering, the Repak DVD case.

The Repak cases hold the disc in a recessed cavity.
The company, a division of International Paper, promises that both packaging types’ will reduce supplier waste and transportation costs as they are made with recycled paperboard, making them lighter than traditional Amaray DVD cases. The new designs also are manufactured with renewable inks and coatings.
Repak features a recessed cavity that holds a disc in place without the need for a traditional plastic hub or tray. Flip-Paks also eliminate the need for a plastic hub and feature a unique slide-out design for discs. Also, Flip-Paks automatically pop out discs when the package is opened for easy use.
Both Shorewood styles can be used for DVDs and/or CDs.
“The home entertainment industry is on the forefront of new trends because its offerings are consumer and artist driven,” said Greg Chup, Shorewood product development manager. “The industry is constantly seeking ways to positively contribute to environmental initiatives. Shorewood is pleased to offer options to consumers who want to reduce costs, energy, materials and waste.”
Robert Anstine, Shorewood VP of marketing and business development, added, “Our goal is to help our customers make choices that benefit their business as well as our world. Our talented team is expanding the tools by thinking both inside and outside the box, constantly developing new approaches to packaging and displays that are compatible with the environment.”
