Your Record Store Needs You - April 17, 2008

With the regular news about falling sales and overall gloom surrounding the music 'biz it's hard to imagine a thing such as Record Store Day actually being genuine. But it's true: On Saturday, April 19, hundreds of independently owned music stores across the country will celebrate “Record Store Day.” Great idea, I say. With Tower Records kaput, Virgin Megastores lacking focus and digital downloads sweeping the universe, it's amazing there are even any record stores left to celebrate. My favorite record store - Ameoba - will offer freebies, gift certificates, tees and shows, and the Record Store Day site has a full list of all the participating locations. So get out there and support your local record store.
