MP3 discounts at Amazon - June 18, 2008
Over at the Listening Post I read that Amazon has made the labels smile with the
launch of two new MP3 discount programs. The move on variable pricing is, as Eliot Van Buskirk writes, "almost certainly why Amazon MP3 is allowed to sell DRM-free music that iTunes is not."
The labels intend to use the variable pricing strategy to increase volume on slow-selling albums while deriving maximum profits from super hot tracks. Depending on what you're into, this is either a blessing or a curse.
