SanDisk shuts down TakeTV, Fanfare - June 6, 2008
According to
Chris Albrecht at NewTeeVee it looks like it's all she wrote for SanDisk’s TakeTV and Fanfare, which has been shut down. TakeTV was SanDisk’s web-to-television video device, which was connected to the iTunes-ish Fanfare, the accompanying content portal.
Thats a quick hook considering the rollout occurred only seven months ago.
Albrecht:
The official party line is that TakeTV was no longer a priority for SanDisk as the company focuses on being at the hub of mobile entertainment. Translation: No one bought the device. It’s easy to understand why; SanDisk was outgunned and outnumbered on this set-top bet.
Michael Learmonth at Silicon Alley Insider says:
The problem was Fancast didn't get much content aside from NBC and CBS. And after that last flurry with NBC, we didn't hear much about TakeTV/Fanfare, which probably sums up what happened to it--ok idea, plenty of great press, and simply no interest from the public.
