EFF slams Microsoft for DRM validation - April 30, 2008

In case you haven't read it yet, Hugh D'Andrade, over on the Electronic Frontier website, posted a Blog entry blasting Microsoft for its plans to shut down its digital rights management validation servers.

Here is some web chatter on the issue:

EFF Demands Microsoft Issue Refunds for MSN Music (PC Magazine)

EFF blasts Microsoft over DRM validation (VNUNet.com)

Watchdog demands MSN Music mea culpa (The Register)

Digital rights group says Microsoft hurts online music customers (tech confidential)

Writes D'Andrade: "Among the many problems with DRM, its threat to musical longevity is one of the most insidious. Vinyl records created decades ago continue to play just fine, on whatever brand of player the music listener desires, thus insuring that our musical heritage is preserved for future generations. By making digital music rely on a license controlled by Microsoft or some other corporation, DRM makes it harder for us to share and preserve our history."
