Google is set to announce a preview release of Google Friend Connect, a service that helps website owners grow traffic by enabling any site on the web to easily provide social features for its visitors. Nick O'Neil at Social Times writes that "this is huge news and it also sounds like the widgetization of applications. Social applications that have existed within the framework of social networking sites for the past year will now extend to other websites."
