Church of Scientology launches YouTube Channel
This is what I know about Scientology: Tom Cruise is in it, and it's based on a book by L. Ron Hubbard called Dianetics. But now I can add a third item because the Church of Scientology has announced the launch of its official channel on YouTube.
Via 901am, they say 'the move to share Scientology videos with the YouTube community is also a logical expansion of the Church’s initiative to make available much of the video content previously accessible to the general public in Church exhibitions around the world and at Scientology.org.'
Scarlett Johansson's music video hits 'net
Last week I went on and on about Scarlett Johansson's new album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, a collection of songs from the wonderful Tom Waits catalogue and one original, which will be released May 20.
After hearing a sampling of the music when the songs leaked on the web, I concluded that it wasn’t awful and would be fine for background music at my next dinner party. Overall the album has a cool, Mazzy Star - ish quality, but not nearly as good
Yesterday I caught the new music video for her cover of Waits' "Falling Down," and I feel obliged to get back on the Blog and say that, at least where this song is concerned, you're better off renting 'Match Point' for a decent Scarlett Johansson experience rather that her new record.
Again, it’s not terrible, and the video is an artsy good time, but this version of what is a classic Tom Waits song is bad. I do think Johansson is a decent actress and happens to be very (very) attractive, but tackling these songs might have been too big an endeavor for an actress who wants to a singer. And because she's chosen Tom Waits to honor, it makes it even a tougher hill to climb.
Here is Idolator's one-listen verdict.
