Digital Toy Market to Reach $9 Billion in Sales by 2012 - May 8, 2008
For kids toys, that is. Today's kids are already comfortable with technology so it's not too surprising that digital toys are gaining popularity. That along with lower prices on consumer electronics and increased shelf space at retail devoted to the growing number of digital toys that combine an educational component are making edutainment toys one of the fastest-growing segments of the toy market, according to a new report from In-Stat, "Continued Growth for the Worldwide Market for Portable, Electronic-Based Edutainment Toys." In-Stat predicts it could reach $9 billion in global sales by 2012.
The makers of portable digital devices and semiconductor companies stand to gain from the strong growth, as the technology used for portables is the same being used in digital edutainment toys, In-Stat says.
The report examines leading companies in the space and forecasts edutainment growth.
