Another bullish report out on video-on-demand’s future predicts that by 2012 VOD revenues will reach $10 billion, double the $4.8 billion in VOD revenues in 2007. U.K.-based Informa Telecoms & Media (www.informatm.com) predicts in its latest report “On-Demand TV & PVRs” that 909 million homes will have access to VOD or near-VOD technology by 2012, or 78% of TV households worldwide.
About half of on-demand revenues will come from North American households, according to the report.
Informa believes the closing of the 30-day window between DVD and VOD will help grow VOD sales. That’s gotta be good news to Warner Bros. which has been leading the charge to shut the window in the U.S., believing that it boosts VOD buy rates and DVD sales.
