Online TV and Video Revenues to reach $7.9 Billion by 2013. - March 28, 2008
Revenues from online TV and video will reach $7.9 billion worldwide by 2013, according to a report from Informa Telecoms & Media.
The majority of those revenues will come from ad-supported services, which Informa predicts will account for 63% of online TV and video revenues in North America in 2013.
Informa says in the report “Online TV and Video: The Over-the-Top Challenge to Traditional TV,” www.informatm.com that the segment is becoming more important, as highlighted by the recent writers’ strike.
“The fact that revenues derived from online TV and video were at the heart of the dispute indicate just how important this sector has become,” said report author Adam Thomas.
Informa expects the U.S. to continue to lead as the top market for online video, accounting for $4.7 billion of revenues in 2013. In 2007, the segment generated just over $1 billion in revenues in the U.S.
The U.K. is the second biggest market, generating online revenues of $119 million in 2007, expected to grow to $842 million in 2013. Japan is the third largest market, with $56 million in online revenues in 2007, expected to grow to $605 million in 2013.
