Few Consumers Watching Internet Video on the TV - April 19, 2008
Just 6% of consumers transfer video from their PC to a TV for viewing, according to a new report out from JupiterResearch as part of the company’s expanded coverage of the digital home.
Jupiter predicts in “Digital Home: Moving Beyond the Concept of the Three Screens to Uncover New Revenue Opportunities” that more consumers will transfer video from their PC to the TV in coming years as new devices and technology make it easier to transfer content between devices.
"The growth of multiple screens represents both a new challenge and an opportunity for vendors and content companies,” said Michael Gartenberg, Vice President of JupiterResearch and lead analyst with the Digital Home team. “While consumer aspiration is high and implementation relatively low, vendors must work with content providers to form the correct ecosystem for content flow, the portability of content to mobile screens, and more interoperable and flexible networking protocols to facilitate consumer desire with concerns over security and piracy.”
Jupiter said it is launching its Digital Home coverage at a time when 65% of consumers have a computer in their living room and when more are looking to transfer content between screens. The group will focus on the evolution of technology in the home.
