Some good news for professional filmmakers - professional video clips are outgrowing user-generated videos online, according to a new report "Professional and UGV Market Size 2005 – 2008" from Research and Markets.
Professional content is expected to generate119.9 billion cumulative views from 2005 through the end of this year, compared to 72.5 billion views for user-generated video during the same period.
Both professional and user-generated video views are expected to grow by 43.4% in 2008, Research and Markets predicts.
Entertainment clips accounted for the biggest audience, generating 17.1 billion views during the four-year period. Professional sites accounted for 52.4% of those views.
Music videos captured 12.5 billion views, with professional videos accounting for 55.6%.
Most news and sports videos viewed were professionally done, with 93.8% of news videos viewed professionally made, and 80.7% of sports videos.
On YouTube, partner channels accounted for 10.6% of videos viewed between 2006-2007, and the category is expected to grow to 15.4% in 2008.
