Video search: the next frontier - April 8, 2008

The Video Search Summit opens today in San Francisco (ContentAgenda is a co-sponsor), bringing together technology developers and marketing execs for a progress check on one of the bigger next-challenges facing online video publishers and marketers: How do you leverage search technology to support the sort of relevant, contextual advertising around video content that has proved so critical to monetizing text-based web content?

The full program for the two-day event is here.

On the eve of the conference, Collarity and Pixsy announced a deal to incorporate Collarity's behavioral content and ad targeting platform into Pixsy's video indexing engine:
Collarity, a leading provider of behavioral content and ad targeting services, today announced a partnership with Pixsy Corporation to deliver enhanced, targeted video and image results through their unique and advanced behavioral monitoring platform. Using state-of-the-art non-invasive technology, Collarity leverages user browsing and searching patterns on the site and goes beyond mere tags to provide relevant results derived from the dynamic interests of Pixsy users.

Collarity will provide targeted advertising along with search results for Pixsy users. The ads which are shown are also based on Collarity’s behavioral relevance engine, and thus are more appropriate for each user too. As a result, users typically have much higher click-throughs when seeing ads optimized by Collarity.
Collarity's ad targeting relies on what it calls "implicit social networks," groups of users within a social networking platform who are connected to each other through shared interests but aren't necessarily aware of each other and don't actively maintain their connection. By harnessing all of the navigation and search streams from web sites Collarity's platform constructs a sort of implicit collaborative behavioral filter to identify content likely to be relevant to a given cluster of web users.

Pixsy is a white label video search platform that allows web publishers and aggregators to provide customized search and indexing functionality to their users. Its clients include Veoh Networks, PureVideo and Lycos.
