PRO-IP bill faces first test - March 6, 2008
The House intellectual property subcommittee will mark up the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property (PRO-IP) Act (
HR4279) this morning and Media Wonk will have a full report after the meeting. Both subcommittee chairman Howard Berman (D-CA) and full Judiciary Committee chairman John Conyers (D-MI) are sponsors of the bill so it is expected to pass the subcommittee handily.
Supporters of the bill expressed some fears going into the markup that Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA) might try to attach some or all of his HR1201 bill softening aspects of the DMCA as an amendment to the PRO-IP Act. Boucher is a candidate to take over the IP subcommittee next year if Berman moves on as expected to take over the full Foreign Affairs Committee.
More later.
