The deal was announced Tuesday. The press release is here.
“It’s a big deal for us in terms of revenue but also in terms of the cache value working with Technicolor brings because of their client base,” Highwinds VP of business development Mark Hayes told Content Agenda last week.
Among Technicolor’s high-profile video streaming customers are Warner Bros., Paramount, NBC Universal, Microsoft and CinemaNow.
Not all of those headliners will immediately become Highwinds CDN customers, however.
“Technicolor will decide when to include us in the package of services they’re offering their clients,” Hayes said. “Basically, they’ll be a reseller of our CDN service, which they can use to enhance the efficiency of their streaming platform.”
Highwinds’ RollingThunder network includes 21 network points-of-presence (POPs) in North America and Europe, including extensive direct peering relationships with last-mile ISPs.
“That means we can inject content directly into the ISPs’ networks without it having to traverse the public Internet,” Hayes said.
