Not sure how I feel about all this. According to report in Billboard Neil Young has put a spin on the upcoming release of his 'Archives' project, which is to release the set in a multi-media format, exclusively on Blu-Ray and DVD. That's right -- no compact discs. Young: "There won't be CDs. Technology has caught up to what the concept was in the first place [and] how we're able to actually present it." Per the story it seems Young isn't keen on the CD's audio limitations and would rather "utilize DVD capabilities to present an interactive "time line" for the music, allowing users to experience articles and film clips from a song's given era as well as ephemera like lyric sheets." That's all well and good, but as a fan I just want to hear the music the second I walk out of the record store, in my car, on the way home. I wonder how many people will be burning the audio files and just creating their own CD of the music.
